    Competition

    Competition - by Coach Brendan Churchin Not everyone wants to compete. Not everyone has that urge to challenge themselves in live combat situations, with an audience of friends and strangers watching as you simulate these life-or-death scenarios. That's okay. You don't have to compete in jiu jitsu in order to advance your skills, however it is an incredible way to test your progress and "drop a mile marker" on where things stand today.     It's not like it was when i was a kid....

    "it's not like back when I was a kid…" How many times have you heard this saying, or better yet how many times have you used it? Growing up the youngest of 5 boys, I started competing in sports at the age of 4 - swimming and soccer early on, then came basketball, football, ice hockey and lacrosse. I've coached and participated in sports ever since. At the age of 28 while personally struggling with career direction and purpose, my wife encouraged me to find a hobby and "go try that thing you always talk about when you watch the fights". She was referring to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and there happened to be a gym about 6 blocks from my job so I took a chance - hey, Columbus did. I called ....

    A great day for the Helio Soneca Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Association

    It was a great day for the Helio Soneca Association . We got to witness two lifetimes of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu clash and our Mestre came out the victor. This fight taught us a few things, but the heaviest take away was the simple refrain of “practice what you preach”. Two decades ago, when Soneca and Megaton first met on the 1996 World Championships stage they were fighters, pure and simple. They had both reached the finals after impressive performances and all eyes were on their mat as the business of combat commenced. This fight was a different matter.     will be moving to 7pm Thursday nights when Coach Kiefer takes off. This change is effective 4/19 Thursday 8pm Judo
    is on hiatus as Coach Sean is having a baby. It will return. For now, Thursday 8pm will be sparring focused on takedowns. Competition Class...
    with Coach Kiefer leaving for the summer, this class currently does not have an instructor and may go on hiatus for a while. Open to ideas..... Currently In Stock:

    Two awesome performances at KickDown 127 on Friday, March 10th!Jessica won her kickboxing match by third round TKO. Adam secured a majority draw in his MMA bout after receiving a point deduction. Hard work pays off! Be sure and congratulate them on their efforts and stay tuned for the next event. Next up, Drake Gonzales has a kickboxing match scheduled for May.

    The name change is official - Alchemy Combat Club is gone. Long live Alchemy Combat Club. Dark Horse Combat Club is here to stay. The website has changed to darkhorsecombatclub.com . Students really shouldn't experience too much in the way of changes around the academy.
