Girls in Gis, New Promotions, and No Gi BJJ Classes for Summer

Girls in Gis Was a Huge Success!

Dark Horse Denver hosted a Girls in Gis event to promote Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for females on April 24th at Alchemy Combat Club in Denver. 44 ladies of all ages and backgrounds turned up to learn from our friends Ashley, Tina and Jennifer from Dark Horse. You can read the whole write-up on it here. Stay tuned for the next one - follow Girls in Gis on Facebook here. They are a great organization that really helps bring ladies on to the mats to share in all the good things Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has to offer.

New Promotions at Alchemy

June 11th, Dark Horse Denver held their first united team BBQ and Spring Promotions. Lots of folks from Dark Horse were promoted to new belt levels.

Dark Horse Denver promotions:

Green Belt: Aly Titterington, Ash Akhavan, Stephan Swanson
Blue Belt: Paul Krusee and Chris Regas. Regas is extra special because he is the first grown-from-scratch blue belt at Dark Horse.

In addition, several of your upper-belt training partners received stripes on their belts: Adam Kesser, Paul Pruett, Brendan Churchin, and Collin Lessing.
Lots of folks from Dark Horse were promoted as well. Stay tuned for details on that.

This represents a ton of hard work and dedication - please congratulate them.

No-Gi Classes for the Summer:

Now that summer is here, some of the classes will be switching to No-Gi in order to make it a little more pleasant to train. These classes do not require extra gear to train - you can wear your kimono pants and your rash guard that you already wear to train. However, if you want to wear shorts to train, make sure they have no open pockets and no zippers. Mouth guards are highly recommended for no-gi and are available at the dojo.  The classes that are changing to no-gi are:

  • Prof. Charles' Intermediate/Advanced classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7,
  • Competition Training On Tuesdays at 8 and Takedowns on Thursdays at 8.
  • Coach Jason's All Levels at 12pm Tuesdays and Thursdays.
